1073MPF Rackmount Mic Pre

Steve Stevens Mod

The Steve Stevens mod blends both channels into one output. Once you have the tone you are looking for from, lets say, a ribbon and a dynamic mic, you can blend both channels in the analogue world, into one output to avoid stacking up multiple tracks. (*Mod not included)

"BAE mic pres are the truth... they have that nice warm sound like old 1073s but quieter. I love them! I use mine for everything, then run final mixes through the 1073MPF's. Balanced Inputs straight out of ProTools to CD to give them a phatt analogue richness."

Terrace Martin
Artist & Producer

1073MPF Features

This is the high-pass filter version of the 1073MP. The 1073MPF is the mic pre-amp version of the 1073 equaliser, sharing the the same well-known characteristic Class A sound with its harmonically rich low end, slight resonant highs and maintained focused mids.

A transformer coupled input, with two selectable impedances makes the 1073MP work well with a variety of microphones.

There is also a line input feature for adding depth to 2-bus mixes and a DI input for all passive and active instruments.

As a coloured and versatile mic-pre, the 1073MP maintains its sonic signature across a wide bandwidth.

  • All Class A, transformer-coupled design in a 19" 1U chassis.
  • Inductor based high pass filter
  • Line level XLR inputs for extra versatility as a line preamp.
  • High impedance DI for guitar and synth.
  • The same Class A components as the 1073 and 1084.
  • Illuminated phase reverse and phantom power pushbuttons.
  • Input impedance selector switch between 1200 and 300 ohms.
  • Same modular design and hand-wiring BAE is known for.
  • Regulated linear power supply will run up to four channels.

Tips

Set the gain knob (red Marconi) around 20 on the dial and set the output (grey knob) fully clockwise. This gives you the highest headroom and cleanest signal path. Every click is in 5db increments so if one click is too hot, attenuate the output to get in between the 5db steps.

Another trick people like to do is to put the final mix through the line inputs on the back to get that harmonic distortion. To get even more of that Class A output stage is to come out of channel 1 and into channel 2 then you have an accumulative effect of that classic output stage.

73EQL 500 Series Module

An instant classic with a shared legacy

“The 73EQL shares the same pedigree and workmanship of our classic 1073 lineup,” explained Mark Loughman, President of BAE Audio. “Achieving an authentic 1073 sound inside the 500 series format was a significant milestone for our company five years ago, and today we’ve managed to extend this capability into what we feel is the best sounding 500 series EQ on the market. With its extended control over all three frequency bands, the 73EQL delivers world class vintage BAE sound in a compact form factor.”

The highly anticipated 73EQL follows the success of the 1073MPL 500 series preamplifier, which was introduced four years ago and which was quickly adopted as a foundational element for many commercial and project studios around the globe. BAE Audio has been building the 1073 for two decades; consecutively longer than any other company in history. The company’s 500 series rendition of this classic circuitry is the result of many years of research and development, over which time the company strived to retain the authentic sound character of the 1073 in an impossibly small package — without compromising quality, materials or workmanship.

73EQL Features

The 73EQL delivers impressive tonal shaping options into a diminutive size, making it the ultimate accompaniment to a BAE 1073MPL 500 series preamplifier or as a stand-alone EQ to complement just any other input source. With a 3-band EQ section and highpass filter controls, the 73EQL is able to shape nuances of sound sources while imparting the classic sound character of the 1073 — this makes it the ultimate companion for on-location, studio recording, mixing or mastering applications.

  • Extended high frequencies of 8 kHz, 10 kHz, 12 kHz, 16 kHz and 20kHz
  • Extended mid-range of 270 Hz, 360 Hz, 500 Hz, 700 Hz, 1.1 kHz, 1.6 kHz, 2.3 kHz, 3.2 kHz,4.8 kHz, 7.2 kHz, 10 kHz

10DCF Compressor/Limiter

"I love my BAE 10DC compressor Limiter.... I've been using it for a while now.. Very reminicent of a Neve 2254.. but with quiet switches and smaller increments..It's got a gorgeous flavour that none of my other classic original comps have."

Jeremy Darby
Canterbury Music

10DCF Features

The 10DCF, which builds on the capabilities of the 10DC compressor/limiter, features Carnhill and Jensen transformers, all discrete circuitry while adding a brand new, inductor-based bypass filter.

The 10DCF bypass filter delivers increased flexibility while recording low frequency ranged instruments, and engages at 50, 80, 160 and 300 Hz — perfect for users who want to compress a broad frequency range while leaving lower frequencies uncompressed. The 10DCF units are also stereo linkable, making them the perfect complement for the output stage of a mixer.

The 10DCF is an incredibly versatile tool for both tracking and mixing. It retains the same top grade, Class A circuitry that is present in BAE gear, while providing bypass filter options that make it more customizable, especially useful for drum and bass applications.

Aside from its unmistakably authentic sound quality, the 10DCF also features a useful range of features on its front panel, including Elma stepped switches for each control, BAE Audio's trademark Marconi knobs, and a gastank style analogue meter. The combination of these elements provides users with accurate visual and tactile reference points as they adjust and shape their sounds. The metering on the 10DCF incorporates a sleek and simple design, with easy to read white lettering set against a black background in a rugged gastank style encasement.

The 10DCF is hand assembled in California using only premium grade analogue components.

  • Discrete Class A transformer-coupled circuit throughout.
  • Fully independent Compressor and Limiter for separate audio dynamics control.
  • Intuitive layout with illuminated meter showing gain reduction.
  • High quality stepped Elma® switches for dialing accuracy and repeatability.

1032 Rackmount & Module

"Counting Crows built a portable studio 10 years ago and we filled it with racks of BAE pre amps and eqs. The stuff is built to last and has been a huge part of every record we have made since."

Dave Bryson
Counting Crows

1032 Features

The new 1032 4-band Mic/Line preamp by BAE was inspired by the frequencies of the classic 1081. It uses the same high quality components and manufacturing techniques used in other BAE modules featuring the same Class A transformer-coupled circuits and same modular cards for long-term serviceability.

Along with the passive inductor high-pass filter, the 4-band equalizer provides greater coverage. The high-mid and low-mid frequencies overlap for flexibility in correcting problem frequencies. The 1032 also provides a more comprehensive high frequency shelf up to 24kHz for extended high frequency correction without compromising the midrange.

Many people loved the EQ portion of the 1081 but the amplifier was class A/B. Our clients told us that they prefer the class A output and so we now have a 1081 inspired equalizer with a 1073 preamp.

  • Inspired by the 1081 EQ points using the same inductor specifications.
  • Class A transformer-coupled.
  • Hand wired, all discrete using modular cards.
  • 4-band with HPF.
  • Low and High Mid-band overlapping frequencies.
  • Extended selection for high frequency shelving.
  • High quality Swiss made Elma® rotary switches.

BAE Anniversary

1073 Features

The BAE 1073 is as authentic as you can get to the original, featuring the same St Ives (Carnhill) transformers as the vintage modules, Elma switches and Canford wire.

The BAE 1073 looks identical to the original vintage module and will happily retrofit in vintage Neve 80 Series consoles because the entire product is engineered in exactly the same way as the originals: the same chassis construction, connectors, printed circuit board layouts, hand-wired looms, and circuitry.

1073D 500 Series Module

1073D 500 Series Module Features

The 1073D (Deluxe) is essentially a 1073 module with extra high frequencies and a direct input for the 500 series market. Built using the same exact parts as the 10 series module, the 1073D features Carnhill transformers, Elma gold plated switches and Canford wire making this the best sounding Class A mic‐pre EQ module on the block.

Because BAE did not want to compromise, the parts are such that they made this a 3 space wide module for optimal quality in contrast to building a smaller rack space version lacking the same premium components.

1073MP Rackmount Mic Pre

Steve Stevens Mod

The Steve Stevens mod blends both channels into one output. Once you have the tone you are looking for from, lets say, a ribbon and a dynamic mic, you can blend both channels in the analogue world, into one output to avoid stacking up multiple tracks. (*Mod not included)

"I just got my 1073MP and I couldn't be happier. I've been using various BAE pres in other studios for years, but never had a pair in my own home studio. I absolutely love this unit being in my rack and now my vibe here at my studio was just elevated so much. Thanks for making some of the best gear out there!!!!"

1073MP Features

This is the mic pre-amp version of the 1073 equaliser having the same well-known characteristic Class A sound with its harmonically rich low end, slight resonant highs, and maintained focused mids.

A Carnhill transformer coupled input, with two selectable impedances makes the 1073MP work well with a variety of microphones.

  • Line level XLR inputs for extra versatility as a line preamp.
  • High impedance DI for guitar and synth.
  • The same Class A components as the 1073 and 1084.
  • Illuminated phase reverse and phantom power push-buttons.
