Slash

Artist Spotlight: Slash

"It's been an interesting road from the mid 90s up until now,” says Slash. "I never stopped to think, ‘What am I gonna to do in the long term?' Or ruminated on my solo career, where it was heading. I've just been jamming around, going wherever the muse has taken me. And this is the first time where I feel like I'm in the saddle and riding my own destiny with some genuine focus.”

For fans who've tracked the broken glass and ruby slipper journey of Guns N' Roses lead guitarist since the release of Appetite for Destruction two days before his 22nd birthday 25 years ago this July, one can't help but be radioactive with enthusiasm. Apocalyptic Love is not just a new record by the storied musician with the black top hat and magical gift for riff, for Slash and his three co-conspirators; it is, indeed, destiny. And everyone involved is poised for the ride.

"The entire album was recorded like a live performance record where the band was all set up together in the big room,” observes producer Eric Valentine, whose Barefoot Recording Studios in Hollywood provided the fertile sonic soil for Love to blossom. "Slash played his solos live as the drums were going down. The vocals were overdubbed because Myles Kennedy was playing rhythm guitar live. The whole thing is Todd Kerns' bass, Brent Fitz' drums, and two main guitars. Slash played the solos while the band was jamming so we didn't have to go back and overdub solos either, which he really dug.”

"Counting Crows built a portable studio 10 years ago and we filled it with racks of BAE pre amps and eqs. The stuff is built to last and has been a huge part of every record we have made since."

Dave Bryson
Counting Crows

1032 Features

The new 1032 4-band Mic/Line preamp by BAE was inspired by the frequencies of the classic 1081. It uses the same high quality components and manufacturing techniques used in other BAE modules featuring the same Class A transformer-coupled circuits and same modular cards for long-term serviceability.

Along with the passive inductor high-pass filter, the 4-band equalizer provides greater coverage. The high-mid and low-mid frequencies overlap for flexibility in correcting problem frequencies. The 1032 also provides a more comprehensive high frequency shelf up to 24kHz for extended high frequency correction without compromising the midrange.

Many people loved the EQ portion of the 1081 but the amplifier was class A/B. Our clients told us that they prefer the class A output and so we now have a 1081 inspired equalizer with a 1073 preamp.

  • Inspired by the 1081 EQ points using the same inductor specifications.
  • Class A transformer-coupled.
  • Hand wired, all discrete using modular cards.
  • 4-band with HPF.
  • Low and High Mid-band overlapping frequencies.
  • Extended selection for high frequency shelving.
  • High quality Swiss made Elma® rotary switches.

1028 Rackmount & Module

"I spent years on the 1073 but enjoy the extra EQ I get now. Aside from that for my voice I won't go through anything else."

Ryan Star

1028 Features

The 1028 is completely hand-wired using Carnhill (St. Ives) transformers. It has the exact same mic/line preamp as the 1073, but with significantly more frequencies in the mid and hi sections. Aside from simply offering more frequency settings to play with, these expanded EQ sections also allow you to play the mid bell curve directly against the high and low shelves where they overlap. This capability opens the tone shaping possibilities in very interesting and musical ways. The 1028 includes the same low pass filter as the 1084, giving it 28 frequencies.

  • High Frequency: +/-16dB shelving with selectable frequencies of 10kHz, 12kHz, 16kHz, 20kHz and 24kHz
  • Low Frequency: +/-16dB shelving with selectable frequencies of 35Hz, 60Hz, 110Hz & 220Hz.
  • Mid Range: +/-12dB or +/-18dB peaking with switchable selectable centre frequencies of 160Hz, 270Hz, 360Hz, 510Hz, 700Hz, 1.6kHz, 3.2kHz, 4.8kHz, 7.2kHz, 8.2kHz, 10kHz.
  • High Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope, switchable between 45Hz, 70Hz, 160Hz & 360Hz.

1023L Features

The 1023L — based on the classic 1023 — takes the preamp and EQ from the 1073 and expands upon it with significantly more frequency options in the high and mid sections, even allowing users to play the mid bell curve directly against the high and low shelves where they overlap.

1084 Rackmount & Module

"They just are the best. Big, robust, musical, dependable, and amazing - empirically. BAE won me over and we've never looked back. Thank you for helping our success!"

Mark Kondracki
Principal - Outloud Audio

1084 Features

The BAE 1084 is as authentic as you can get to the original, featuring the same St Ives (Carnhill) transformers as the vintage modules, Elma switches and Canford wire.

The BAE 1084 looks identical to the original vintage module and will happily retrofit in vintage Neve 80 Series consoles because the entire product is engineered in exactly the same way as the originals: the same chassis construction, connectors, printed circuit board layouts, hand-wired looms, and circuitry.

1073D 500 Series Module

1073D 500 Series Module Features

The 1073D (Deluxe) is essentially a 1073 module with extra high frequencies and a direct input for the 500 series market. Built using the same exact parts as the 10 series module, the 1073D features Carnhill transformers, Elma gold plated switches and Canford wire making this the best sounding Class A mic‐pre EQ module on the block.

Because BAE did not want to compromise, the parts are such that they made this a 3 space wide module for optimal quality in contrast to building a smaller rack space version lacking the same premium components.
